Nearly 800 million people throughout the world lack access to safe drinking water.

Water-related diseases are the most common cause of illness and death among the poor of developing countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.6 million deaths of children per year can be attributed to unsafe water, poor sanitation, and lack of hygiene.

WEFTA works with impoverished communities in Latin America and Africa to develop ways to alleviate the problems associated with unsafe water supplies and inadequate sanitation.
