WEFTA is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Quebrada Macho Water Supply Improvement Project in Panama’s Comarca Ngäbe-Buglé. Developed in response to a request from community leaders and the Rural Aqueduct Board, the project strengthened the community’s gravity-fed water system and improved access to safe, reliable water for approximately 70 families, representing about 560 residents.
Working alongside WEFTA’s local technical partner, Nicolás Arcia, community members helped construct and improve critical water infrastructure, including the spring intake, storage facilities, transmission line components, and approximately 750 meters of distribution piping. The project also included installation of valves and system controls designed to improve reliability and simplify future maintenance.
A defining feature of the project was the strong commitment of the Quebrada Macho community. Residents contributed substantial volunteer labor, assisting with excavation, material transport, construction activities, and project oversight. In addition, local water committee members and system operators received training to strengthen long-term operation and maintenance of the system.
Community completion reports, financial records, and supplier receipts confirmed successful implementation of the planned activities and responsible management of project resources. The result is a more resilient and sustainable water system that will serve the community for years to come.
