A new borehole has been successfully drilled at the Lituhi Parish Centre in Nyasa District of Tanzania, marking a major step forward in restoring access to safe and reliable water for this vital rural hub in southern Tanzania. The parish compound, including Lituhi Hospital, a convent, priests’ residence, and church, serves more than 40,000 people across 23 surrounding villages.

Providing a Consistent Water Source

For years, water scarcity has challenged daily life and patient care at the parish, especially in the hospital’s maternity and children’s wards. Thanks to generous supporters and strong collaboration with our local partner Sanitation and Water Action (SAWA), the newly completed borehole now provides a consistent and sustainable water source that will power the next phases of infrastructure improvements across the site.

The well was completed in July 2025, and early water testing shows strong and steady flow, clear water, and fast recovery—all signs of a healthy and productive groundwater source. With this reliable supply now in place, work can move ahead on storage tanks, piping, and much-needed upgrades to sanitation facilities.

Ensuring Sustainability

The Lituhi Parish Centre WASH Improvement Project is part of WEFTA’s ongoing effort to improve health outcomes and restore dignity through water and sanitation, especially in healthcare settings. Through WEFTA’s Circuit Rider Program, engineers will continue providing long-term support and oversight to ensure that systems remain operational for years to come.

More updates to follow as the project progresses. Thank you to all who are helping make clean water a reality for Lituhi.
