Uganda

WEFTA is committed to improving WASH in Ugandan communities.

Uganda, a landlocked country in east-central Sub-Saharan Africa, is known as the “pearl of Africa.” The capital city of Kampala is located on the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest freshwater lake. It is a country teeming with flora and fauna that are protected in 10 national parks. Uganda’s population is mostly rural, but urban centers are growing. Coffee is a major export.

Unfortunately, access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene remains a challenge for many Ugandans. According to United Nations data on Uganda (2024), 72% of the population lacks access to safely managed drinking water; 80% of the population lacks access to safely managed sanitation; and 80% of the population lacks access to a handwashing facility at home that includes soap and water. WEFTA is committed to improving these statistics through WASH projects in Ugandan communities.
